JÄRFÄLLA MANSKÖR (JARFALLA MALE CHOIR) - curriculum
("Järfälla" can be pronounced "Jarfella")

Jarfalla Male Choir (JMC) was founded in 1920. Järfälla is a municipality with a population of over 62 000 in a suburb of Stockholm. Many conductors have taken the seat in the chair of musical leader- ship of JMC.
Järfälla Male Choir was in the year 2005 looking for a new conductor and with our earlier experi- ence with Natalia Edvall it was a great coincidence and honour to find that Natalia was prepared to handle JMC once again after her three years with Gothenburg Opera house! Natalia Edvall, our Moscow-trained conductor and teacher at Adolf Fredrik's Music School is back!

Choir singing - a big movement in Sweden.
Next to sports, singing in a choir is the greatest movement in Sweden. There are about 160 000  choir members organized within 8 national choir associations - with repertoires from sacred songs to barbershop. The outstanding male choir in Sweden since many years is "Orphei Drängar" (OD), founded already 1853, with Hugo Alfvén and Eric Ericson as the most famous conductors.
There are few countries along Sweden with such a broad and genuine collection of patriotic and folklore songs. They reflect not only traditional themes of human love and sorrow but also the feelings of the very varying nature and seasons.

The Swedish choir traditions - and common party singing - are very much related and influenced by a couple of poets and composers from the last centuries, especially loved by the people. Those are e.g. Hugo Alfvén, Carl Michael Bellman, Evert Taube, Nils Ferlin and Birger Sjöberg.

Järfälla Manskör is eager and has the spirit and capacity to perform works of all these masters and would love to bring you the joy of a diversified set of songs.

See you soon!
